Nach ihrer fotografischen Ausbildung studierte sie an der Bauhaus-Universit\u00e4t Weimar. Seit 2009 entstanden unter anderem die Serien &#8222;books for sale&#8220;, &#8222;Bahak&#8220; und &#8222;Krishak&#8220; in den Stra\u00dfen Kolkatas und auf den Reisfeldern West-Bengalens. Sie stellen Fragen nach dem gesellschaftlichen Gehalt von Geschichte, Realit\u00e4t und Identit\u00e4t.<br \/>\nVon 2014 bis 2018 arbeitete Anja Bohnhof an einer ihrer komplexesten und aufwendigsten Serien &#8222;Tracking Gandhi&#8220;, f\u00fcr die sie zahlreiche, f\u00fcr das Leben und Wirken Gandhis wichtige Orte in Indien, Bangladesh, S\u00fcdafrika und Europa bereiste. Das Projekt resultierte in Ausstellungen und einem umfangreichen Buch. Es sind die Arbeitspl\u00e4tze von sogenannten Pavement Typists, die auf den B\u00fcrgersteigen vor Gerichtsgeb\u00e4uden wie dem High Court ihre Dienste anbieten und mit ihrer Schreibmaschine zum Beispiel Formulare ausf\u00fcllen.<br \/>\nDie Maschine, meist ein Modell der Firma Remington, begleitet die Pavement Typists meist schon durch ihren gesamten Berufsalltag, zum Teil bereits 30-40 Jahre. Dennoch treffen die Folgen von Wasserknappheit besonders die unterpriviligierten Bev\u00f6lkerungsgruppen. In Indien haben \u00fcber 160 Millionen Menschen gegenw\u00e4rtig keinen Zugang zu sauberem Wasser. In 300.000 D\u00f6rfern Indiens sind keine Brunnen oder andere Wasserspeichersysteme verf\u00fcgbar.<br \/>\nAnja Bohnhof suchte zw\u00f6lf D\u00f6rfer im Norden des indischen Bundesstaates West-Bengalen auf und zeigt die Lebensrealit\u00e4t von Frauen und M\u00e4dchen, die einzig und allein von der Beschaffung von sauberem Wasser gepr\u00e4gt 2017\/18<\/span><\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nDer l\u00e4ndliche Raum Indiens ist nicht selten von einer sehr einfachen, nahezu archaischen Lebensweise gepr\u00e4gt. Insbesondere Kleinbauern fehlt der Anschluss an kapital-intensive Ertragssteigerung durch Maschineneinsatz und D\u00fcngemittel bzw. Erweiterung ihrer Produktionsbasis \u00fcber Landerwerb.<br \/>\nIn Bengalen, unweit der Millionenstadt Kolkata, trifft Anja Bohnhof auf Bauern und Feldarbeiterinnen, die Reis anbauen und ernten wie vor Hunderten von Jahren. Die Ernte der Reispflanzen und das Dreschen der Rispen wird fast ausschlie\u00dflich in manueller Arbeit vollzogen. Entstanden sind die Werke am Rande der Stra\u00dfen, \u00fcber die die M\u00e4nner ihre Lasten transportieren, in einem improvisierten Fotostudio.
